Nomex & ROHACELL® Core Materials

Core materials are used for "sandwich structured" composites which is a special class of composite materials that is fabricated by attaching two thin, but stiff skins to a lightweight, but thick core. The core material is normally low strength material, but its higher thickness provides the sandwich composite with highbending stiffness with overall low density.

Rock West carries two core materials:

  1. Nomex Honeycomb which is a commercial grade aramid fiber honeycomb is manufactured from Nomex paper (or equivalent) and coated with a heat resistant phenolic resin.
  2. ROHACELL®Foam is a closed-cell rigid foam based on polymethacrylimide (PMI) chemistry, which does not contain any CFC's.
