Carbon Fiber Fabric

Carbon Fiber Fabric

Huge carbon fiber material selection◾ Carbon fiber sheets and plates with lengths of 6 to 132 inches ◾ High performance carbon fiber panels and low-cost options available ◾ Machining and custom options available

We carry carbon fiber plates in fabric and unidirectional styles with multiple materials, finishes, and thicknesses to suit your project needs. From straight carbon fiber sheets to hybrid composites, from slim veneers to plates nearly 2 inches thick, carbon fiber composites save significant weight over metal plates. Our fabrics use fibers that are most often used in aerospace and automotive applications (12K fiber Aksa A-42, 3K fiber Toray's T300 fiber). Whether your project is big or small, our inventory includes carbon fiber options covering the gamut of widths, lengths, and specs to keep it moving forward. We also offer machining services and custom-fiber sheet options. Contact us for a quote! To help you get started on your project or stay on your timeline, we are generally able to ship most of the products listed in our online store within one business day. NOTE: No returns accepted on fabrics.

Frequently Asked Questions: Carbon Fiber Fabric

What is carbon fiber fabric?

Carbon fiber fabric is just like other fabrics except it uses carbon fibers instead of cotton, nylon, polyester, etc. The weave is coarser than fabrics used for clothing is more like a heavy canvas. Carbon fiber fabric needs to be laminated with a matrix (i.e. epoxy resin) to form a rigid structure.

Why are there different weaves of carbon fiber fabric?

Carbon fiber comes in different weaves optimized for different uses. For example, the standard twill weave is a good all-purpose fabric. Unidirectional fabric is good for adding strength and stiffness in one direction. Plain weave is good for delicate layups and some patterns are just designed for a unique look!

How do I make parts with carbon fiber fabric?

Since carbon fiber fabric is soft and pliable just like other fabrics it needs a binder to make it rigid. This binder is known as the matrix or resin. Epoxy and vinyl ester resins are the most common materials used. The carbon fiber fabric is formed into the desired shape then the resin is added and cured.

What’s the difference between carbon fiber fabric and prepreg?

Prepreg is a version of carbon fiber that already has a tacky resin impregnated into it. Both carbon fiber fabric and prepreg can be cut and formed into all sort of shapes. Unlike carbon fiber fabric which can be made at room temperature, prepreg requires elevated temperatures and pressure to cure properly.
