Build Your Own Tube - Up to 21.5" Diameter & 348" (29 feet) Long - Lead time dependent on Qty and Workload Schedule

You've asked and we've listened! Your design is our command. *This is not an exhaustive list of all available Inside Diameters. It is ONLY a list of instantly customizable & tailored tubing available to be built on the listed / pre-determined mandrel diameters listed here. We keep a much larger inventory of diameters on hand in pre-built configurations which can be instantly shopped and purchased in our online tubing catalog!
After years of development and partnership we are excited to make this infinitely vast selection of tubing available for immediate purchase, each tube customized to your specific needs & offered exclusively through Rock West Composites.
See our online catalog for our huge selection of pre-built tubes!
Features & Benefits
Key Characteristics
As with most structural applications it is logical to choose a product that best suits the needs of the application. Unlike metals which are isotropic in nature (same properties in all directions) composites can be tailored by changing the direction of the fiber. This allows for both weight reductions & enables possible increases in strength and stiffness over metals. Rock West Composites currently offers 3 tailored layup orientations for you to choose from. Of course, others are available, just contact us us if none of these satisfy your needs perfectly.
Lateral Stiffness
Best suited for general applications. In our experience this makes up 90% of customer needs and is therefore the most commonly chosen and most applicable option. The large majority (over 95%) of Rock West tubing found online here is similar
- Majority % of near 0° fibers (for bending stiffness & tension loading)
- Minimal % of near 90° fibers (for buckling resistance under load)
- Some % of ±45° fibers (for bending stiffness & tension loading)
Torque
Best suited for driveshafts & twisting applications.
- Minimal % of near 0° fibers (for bending stiffness & tension loading)
- Minimal % of near 90° fibers (for buckling resistance under load)
- Majority % of ±45° fibers (for bending stiffness & tension loading)
Internal Pressure
Best suited for pressure vessels. Composite tubes are used in this application due to the high tensile strength of both carbon (& glass) fibers
- Minimal % of near 0° fibers (for bending stiffness & tension loading)
- Some % of near 90° fibers (for buckling resistance under load)
- Majority % of 60° fibers (for pressure / burst resistance under load)
- Some % of ±45° fibers (for bending stiffness & tension loading)
Due to the infinite varieties of wall thicknesses you can choose from, Rock West Composites will not be able to tell you on the spot what your specific request here can withstand regarding max bending strength, max torque ratings or max internal pressures. We will develop out additional tools in time to add here that will be able to estimate these values. We are however happy to quote you engineering hours to evaluate and recommend a tailored tube specific to your needs. Contact us if that is desired.

Technical Data
Important To Note Regarding Temperature Rating
"Build Your Own" tubing available specifically on this page is built using a lower temperature cure epoxy resin system. The maximum Tg of these tubes is therefore limited to 225°F. If you need a higher Tg we have hundreds of other tubes (also filament wound) that have standard Tg's north of 300°F with the option to build any of those tubes with a specialty high temperature epoxy resin system. This High Temp resin can achieve temperatures above 400°F. Please reach out if this is a need you have.
