Why use Bond Line Control Beads?
1) To maintain concentricity between tube and lug. This will maintain centered tubes and also straightness from tube to lug.
2) Maintain consistent bond line thickness between tube and lug. Consistent bond line thickness is very important for repeatable bond line mechanical properties.
3) Prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar materials. Carbon fiber and some metallics will exhibit negative effects (corrosion of the metal) if they are allowed to come in contact with each other.
The size of the beads should be as close to the bond line gap as possible without being larger than the gap. For example, if your measured gap is 0.005”, then you would use the 0.0049” beads.
It is recommended that you mix 2%-3% Bond line beads by weight into the adhesive. For example, if you have 100 grams of mixed adhesive, you would add 2-3 grams of glass beads.
