You will then be shipped the item sized to your specification and any remaining length of the orginal item (drops). Sanding also incurs a fee which will be included in the quote. All items that have been sanded or cut may not be returned.

Unlike metals which have similar properties in all directions (isotropic), the properties of composites are varying, dependent on the orientation of the fibers in each layer. This particular carbon fiber fabric square tube has an internal diameter (ID) of 3.985" and an outer diameter (OD) of 4.22" The outer ply of material on this tube is a 2x2 twill weave (diagonal appearance seen below) which will prevent fiber breakout better than unidirectional material. Thus, fabric tubes provide an ideal surface for machining. The core of this tube is almost always comprised of multi-directional "uni" plies which makes most carbon fiber fabric & unidirectional tubes ideal for bending and compression applications.

Features & Benefits

Fabric roll wrapped tubing offers many benefits over uni-directional and even filament wound tubing. That isn't to say it is the best however. Here are a few reasons you may wish to consider fabric roll wrapped tubing for your application.

  • 0° fibers maximize bending stiffness and run along the length of the part. Consider bending a tube over your knee.
  • 45° fibers maximize torsional stiffness and are typically plied together in an opposing manner, i.e. ±45°. Consider twisting a tube like a vehicle's driveshaft.
  • 90° (or "hoop") fibers maximize crushing stiffness and generally assist in overall durability. Consider laying a tube on the ground and stepping on it.
